Business Owners Policy (BOP)

A Business Owners Policy packages general liability and commercial property for eligible small and mid-size operations. It is not a substitute for workers’ compensation, commercial auto, or professional liability — those stay separate when they apply.

    WHAT A BOP TYPICALLY COMBINES

    What a BOP typically combines

Kavana Insurance Inc. helps California and Texas businesses review whether a BOP or separate policies better match the work, the location, and the contracts in front of you.

    01

    General liability

Third-party bodily injury, property damage, and related legal defense for covered claims — the coverage landlords and GCs usually ask to see on a certificate.

    02

    Commercial property

Building, tenant improvements, equipment, and inventory after covered losses such as fire, theft, or vandalism. Business income is often available as part of the package or an option.

    WHAT IT IS

    Who it may fit

Retail storefronts and light wholesale. Professional offices and consultancies. Eligible restaurants and food businesses (operations and alcohol service still drive underwriting). Healthcare offices that are not hospitals. Light-trade and service businesses that are not heavy construction.

Contractors on active jobsites often need a contractors program — general liability, workers’ compensation, commercial auto, inland marine — rather than a standard office BOP. If the work is construction, start at contractors insurance.

A BOP is a package, not a wrap-around for every risk. Workers’ compensation, commercial auto, liquor liability, professional liability, and builders risk are usually written on their own forms.

WHAT THE FORM DOES AND DOES NOT REACH
    USUALLY COVERED
    + General liability
+ Building and business personal property
+ Business income, on most forms
+ Some equipment breakdown, by carrier
    NOT ON THIS FORM
    Workers’ compensation
    Commercial auto
    Professional liability
Builders risk for a project underway

GENERAL GUIDANCE ONLY. THE POLICY FORM, ENDORSEMENTS, AND CARRIER DECIDE WHAT IS COVERED ON YOUR ACCOUNT.
