General liability

General liability insurance responds to third-party claims of bodily injury, property damage, and personal or advertising injury arising from your operations — plus related legal defense for covered claims. It is the coverage landlords, GCs, and clients usually ask to see on a certificate. It is not workers’ compensation, it is not professional liability, and it does not rebuild your own building.

    WHAT GL TYPICALLY ADDRESSES

    What GL typically addresses

Kavana Insurance Inc. helps California and Texas businesses review whether GL belongs on a standalone policy, a Business Owners Policy, or a contractors program.

    01

    Third-party bodily injury

A customer, visitor, or other third party is injured in connection with your operations or premises. Employee injuries are a workers’ compensation matter, not GL.

    02

    Third-party property damage

Your work accidentally damages someone else’s property — a client’s space, a neighboring structure, a parked car. Your own tools and buildings sit on other forms.

    03

    Personal and advertising injury

Covered allegations such as libel, slander, or certain advertising claims, subject to the form. This is not a reputation-management product.

    04

    Defense and medical payments

Legal defense for covered claims, even when the allegation is disputed. Medical payments, when included, can pay limited third-party medical expenses without a finding of liability.

    WHAT IT IS

    What still sits outside GL

Construction GL is often required before work starts. It still does not cover the cost to redo your own faulty work, employee injuries, or professional design errors. Contractors: start at contractors insurance.

Workers’ compensation · commercial property · errors & omissions · commercial auto · builders risk · wrap-up all sit on their own forms.

Share operations, location, payroll or sales, and any contract or lease insurance requirements. Certificates of insurance are issued after a policy is bound.
